So I just logged in for first time and was looking around starter area. I fell into a hole in the starter area and now cannot get out. My food does not go down so I cannot die of hunger and start over. I am just stuck and cannot play.

You should be able to use the /kill command in this situation.

I tried the /kill command and was told I did not have permission to use this command

Some players on the server helped me get out.
