Plat seems to be useless. When i see auctions for folks wtb something for 100k, it doesn't mean a whole lot. Need something to pour plat towards to make selling items lucrative. Something like a legendary sales person that only exists in a hard to reach spots that sells items of rarity for large sums of plat OR you have to buy tokens to exchange for an item. The whole river styx and the ferry man came to mind.

Plat is used for buffing / potions. For some classes this can be costly. IIRC, platinum is also used to buy skill points to train with, when your arena champion is the winner (let's not discuss the tournament itself here though 
) . Additionally, if you have ever made a donation and increased your Casual Dreams faction to apprenhensive or better, you can buy fairy lamps for platinum at that point (which is VERY handy, and a big plat sink).
