do the level 63 end game pets hit harder / more hp than the epic pet?

Endgame pets have more hp than epic pet, yes.

The epic pet is... Epic, so it has epic dps but the epic pet is only level ~50 so it is not going land many hits on level 65 mobs.

So like most answers to EQ questions, the answer is... it depends.

The epic pet should have great dps on mobs 55 and under. And maybe even on 55+ mobs, let us know how it goes.

The higher level pets are better for tanking because the level based mitigation goes both ways. It will be harder for a mob to hit your pet if your pet is much higher level than the mob. You start to see a significant impact when there is a 5+ level difference (hitrate falloff and spell resists).

Mage Epic pet of its day had higher HP and DPS than any summoned pet up to level 60. Level 61+ PoP pets could be slightly better.

Epic pet had some perks that it acted like all the elements combined. It cast a high level DS on itself, it cast two different dd procs, as well as a stun.
