Earthshaker and You- A Primer

Post by greenspectre »

For any who don't know, Earthshaker is a Warrior's best PBAoE weapon. On this server, due to low mob HP and damage output, the most efficient way of leveling is to swarm-pull a zone and gun them down with AoE's. RNG, PAL, SK, and BER have the Coral-Hilted Tulwar, and we get the less-efficient, but easier-to-obtain, Earthshaker. Once I did some research on this bad boy, I found it was surprisingly easy to get on this server (I suspect on purpose- Poru trying to give Warriors an edge?) and thought I'd make sure everyone knew how to get one and how to use one.

Step 1- Farm cash. You're going to need anywhere from 1k-10k depending on your luck. For low levels, mobs in Crescent Reach drop armor that vendors for 20pp per helm, 33pp per legs, and 58pp per chest. Pull a swarm and take 'em down, /hidecorpse looted, and then pick up anything shiny. Ignore all the augs they drop, as none at that level will sell to Adventure Merchants.

Step 2- Get yo' tickets. The Arena Quartermaster in the Arena sells Gold Tickets for ~1k each (a bit more if your CHA sucks). However, he will only sell to a member of his race, and his race will be whatever race won the tournament the night prior. If your warrior doesn't happen to match races with the Quartermaster, just make a level 1 newbie of that race and have him buy them from him. For this, you will need a second account or a trusted friend to hold onto your cash/tickets.

Step 3- Spin the Wheel. Head to the Shadeling's Roost in Shadowhaven, and hand your tickets to Jacob Thornblade. Sometimes he will give you your ticket back and say he doesn't have any prizes for you- if he does, just keep trying until you get something. You will get one of the following prizes per ticket:

Earthshaker
Glowing White Drum
Glowing Black Drum
Guise of the Deceiver
Fungus Covered Great Staff
Rubicite Breastplate
Scimitar of the Mistwalker
Vibrating Gauntlets of Infuse
Holgresh Elder Beads
Ton Po's Bo Stick of Understanding

Also keep in mind that he will never give you an item you already have in your inventory, so you can rig the wheel if you have a friend who has some of these items already on-hand- just have those items in your inventory when you turn in your ticket. Some of these items are also worth picking up, like the Drums, which summon mounts.

Now, all that's left is go to go your favorite zone, pull a mass of mobs (non-casters are best, as nukes can still hurt if you're not paying attention) and swing the Earthshaker at them, procc'ing your sword and slaughtering your entire pull quickly. Should only take a proc or two at lower levels. In Dulak, most mobs die in 3 procs.

Anyways, that's all. I just wanted to make sure anybody contemplating a warrior, or who already has one, knows how easy it is to get our PbAoE weapon. It may not be as good as the Tulwar, but we can get it MUCH MUCH earlier and it still handles great! Happy Hunting all!

Thanks for posting this Miru, it might save me from having to type it out again in chat (or probably not... not everyone visits the forums it seems).

The casino on live had these same items, and IIRC Poru was looking for a reward for the Arena Quartermaster (and there are quite a few people who like illusion masks), so it made sense. Thanks to Poru for scripting it around the lore tag too (so we don't end up with a bazillion Holgresh Beads). Before the casino, I had sunk upwards of 300k into the casino and received only two golden tickets for the effort (neither resulted in what I wanted). Poru does like to give subtle encouragement towards underplayed classes though... *cough* ranger top-heavy *cough*.

That all said, I'm not a big fan of AoE levelling personally (I do use it, however), because TBH it's not very fun. Effective? Yes. Fun? No. There are also alternative ways to level that aren't limited to Tulwar, Earthshaker or innate AoE classes, but these usually involve innate DS classes or a little bit of twinkage. People are surprised that there are viable alternatives. Also, procs tend to get resisted even by low red cons (and it's easy for a new player to feel a sense of power when smashing on-level or yellow cons and go for reds instead).

I am in the same boat as you and agree that while effective, AOE leveling is pretty grindy, but anyone looking to level fast should be aware of their class' options. It is very true that AOE leveling is infinitely less effective against low-reds, and I'm glad for that, as it makes players consider a different strategy for those encounters. I certainly enjoyed taking on a deep red Warbler in OT when I was 36, but it's also nice to be able to plow through the low grind with efficiency when I want, and stock up on those LDON gems :)

So this is no longer true, I've received 5x Rubicite BP so far and no Earthshaker. Just be aware if you're looking for something specific it might cost you tens of thousands of platinum.
