No, it actually screams at you as you do it in red text, telling why as well. When I completed my epic on my SK, I received the letter first drop/kill on Kurron.

I also went and did the silly darkforge stuff, although have heard reports of him dropping the letter without the quest

I clicked on the spot where Dry Sapara's tail is floating around and it let me in successfully in Skyfire.

It seems to be just about finding the right place to click in
