I guess for the purpose of leveling 1-65 I never had a problem with the strength or survivability of my pet (necro or mage is all I can speak of). The only time I saw a benefit in having the buffs is with the harder 65+ content.

If you train the aa for "Pet Affinity" then your pet will receive the buffs.
